Some Updates & Some Jobs
It’s been a minute — hope that I’m the only one who came down with a holiday case of coronavirus.
First: I want to apologize. Issues haven’t been nearly as frequent as I originally intended.
Here’s the deal: running this thing has been tricky. It requires sifting through thousands of job postings. I’ve yet to find a publication schedule that really works for me, between grad school and day-job. And it’s been difficult to build a paid subscriber base that makes the time commitment worthwhile.
The newsletter will be in flux — at least until I graduate at the end of 2022.
Here’s the plan:
I’ve paused all paid subscriptions. Monthly + annual subscribers will no longer be charged.
I’m going on a brief hiatus. I’m going to take January to get my shit together, and then come into February hot.
The newsletter lives on. My tentative plan is to shift to a more frequent, but less comprehensive format. (Probably biweekly, but only featuring the best of the best.) Frankly, the thought of sitting down for hours to do one of those mega-dumps is excruciating, and it’s difficult to make the time in the evenings to get it done. I’m hoping that a new, brief format will be much more manageable.
In the meantime, here are some things that have come across my desk:
Press Assistant, Stacey Abrams for Governor. Potential remote.
This is an incredible team with an incredible boss. 10/10, would do again.
Communications Director, Stacey Abrams for Governor. Must be in Georgia.
See above.
Oregon Press Secretary, either Sen. Merkley or Wyden. Must be based in Portland. Materials in by 1/18.
State Communications Director, Sen. Tina Smith. Must be based in Minnesota. Materials in by 1/14.
Press Secretary, Colorado Democrats. Salary “commensurate with experience.” I’d expect at least $70,000, but that’s just based on similar CO-based jobs I’ve seen.
Communications Director, Florida Democratic Party. $90-105K (and negotiable!). Must be based in Florida.
Deputy Communications Director, Florida Democratic Party. No salary listed, but likely $70-80K. Must be based in Florida.
Health Communications Specialist, Centers for Disease Control. Atlanta-based. Up to $153,000.
There are three of these open, at varying levels of seniority. I had a similar gig and it was pretty sweet, but that was three directors ago.
Assistant Director of Communications for Politics, SEIU. $120,500. DC-based, remote potential.
Philanthropy Writer, Natural Resources Defense Council. DC-based, remote potential. ~$75,000.

Multimedia Specialist, Washington State Democrats. Seattle. 69-74K.
